There's no bad season in Bhutan, just different ones. The real question is what you want most: clear mountain views, flowers, quiet time, or festivals.

Autumn — October to November

The clearest skies of the year, with classic Himalayan views and big festivals in many valleys. This is also the busiest time, so book lodges and festival stays early.

Spring — March to May

Monsoon — June to August

Green, dramatic, and quiet. Rain often falls in the afternoon and mountain views come and go, but valleys like Punakha turn lush, and there are few other travellers.

Winter — December to February

Crisp, bright days fill the lower valleys. Black-necked cranes arrive in Phobjikha, and you'll often have the country to yourself. Punakha stays pleasantly warm while the high passes turn cold.
